Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Available Franchise Territories
Emberly Chimney Cleaners is opening protected territories in twelve states. That’s not a vague list we’re floating to see who calls. These are markets where we have no owner yet, which means the first qualified operator in each one gets the local rights, not a shared zip code with another Emberly truck parked three blocks away. The operating model is already built: the Haven Standard has been running since 2009, the camera archive goes back the same distance, and the buying network that keeps materials honest is already in place. What’s missing is the person who wants to run it where they live.
Open Markets
These states currently have open territory available. A few notes on why they make sense for chimney cleaning specifically:
- Texas – North Texas and the Hill Country have tens of thousands of wood-burning fireplaces built in the 1990s and 2000s that are just now hitting the age where liner and crown work becomes unavoidable.
- Florida – Fireplaces are less common, but the ones that exist sit in coastal humidity, which accelerates rust on dampers and caps. The ones that need work need it badly.
- California – Air quality rules in the Bay Area and Sacramento have pushed older open-hearth fireplaces toward gas inserts or removal, which means a lot of Level 2 inspections and a lot of documented findings before any change is made.
- Georgia – Metro Atlanta’s northern suburbs run on gas logs and prefab fireboxes, and the inspection volume is steady year-round, not just seasonal.
- North Carolina – Raleigh, Charlotte, and the Triad have dense subdivisions of 1980s and 1990s homes with original clay liners. That’s a repair pipeline, not just a cleaning route.
- Arizona – Higher-elevation markets like Flagstaff and Prescott burn wood for actual heat, and creosote buildup happens fast in those conditions.
- Tennessee – Nashville’s older neighborhoods, especially east of the river, are full of masonry chimneys with original liners and decades of deferred maintenance.
- Ohio – Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati have century-old housing stock where chimney work is structural as often as it’s cosmetic.
- Pennsylvania – Philadelphia’s row homes and the older suburbs around Pittsburgh produce consistent sweep and repair volume because the chimneys are shared, aged, and inspected on a schedule.
- Colorado – Denver and Boulder have both wood-burning fireplaces and a population that asks for documentation. The camera archive sells itself there.
- Washington – The Puget Sound region’s damp winters mean masonry absorbs water, spalls, and needs crown and cap work on a short cycle.
- Virginia – Richmond and Northern Virginia have the right mix: old masonry in the city, prefab and gas in the newer suburbs, and homeowners who read the fine print.
How Territories Work

A protected territory means exactly what it sounds like. When you claim one, it’s yours. No other Emberly location will market into it, take dispatches from it, or bid against you inside it. You’re building a local business with your name on the license and the Haven Standard behind the paperwork, and the territory protects the equity you build in it. A territory is reserved by going through our qualification process, checking the market against our expansion plan, and signing the operating agreement. We don’t hold markets open indefinitely, and we don’t overlap owners. If a market is claimed while you’re still deciding, it’s gone until the owner exits. The Haven Standard governs how every territory operates: written pricing before work starts under Clause 1, verified crews under the staffing rules, and photo documentation under Clause 4. What it doesn’t govern is your market. That’s yours.
