Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Repair in New York City: What to Know First
We repair DuraFlex chimney liners and related masonry across all five boroughs, and most jobs are completed within one to two visits after our camera inspection. A typical DuraFlex repair in New York City runs $450-$1,900 depending on whether we’re repointing a crown, re-securing a tee connection, or replacing a damaged liner section. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not an authorized dealer, which means we recommend the fix that actually solves the problem, not the one that moves inventory. If you own a home with a DuraFlex liner and suspect something’s off, call (980) 580-8641. We’ll send a written price before any work starts, and you’ll see the camera footage yourself.
This page is for homeowners who already have a DuraFlex product installed and need straight answers about repair. No brand-speak. Just what fails, why it fails in this city, and what it costs to fix.
How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316Ti and 316L liners: pitting at the firebox transition. The first 18 to 24 inches above the appliance take the worst heat cycling. We see pinhole corrosion there, especially in older gas-to-wood conversions where the liner was never re-sized. The fix is usually a partial reline of that lower section, not a full replacement. Unless the camera shows otherwise.
- DuraFlex AL (aluminum) liners: seam separation at pop-rivet points. Aluminum liners are thinner and the riveted seams loosen over years of expansion and contraction. In New York City’s freeze-thaw cycle, that movement happens faster than in milder climates. We re-secure seams when the metal is still sound, and we say so plainly when it isn’t.
- DuraFlex Pro and DuraFlex 316Ti hybrid kits: tee-snout misalignment after crown settling. Crowns settle. When they do, the tee snout rotates and the liner pulls off the appliance collar. We re-align, re-clamp, and repoint the crown so the geometry holds. Skipping the crown work means you’ll call us again in two years.
- DuraFlex RainCaps and terminations: wind-driven rain entry in Manhattan canyon streets. The cross-breezes between buildings on the Upper West Side and in Midtown push rain sideways into standard caps. We install directional terminations rated for wind-driven rain, and we document the before-and-after with photos so you can see what changed.
- DuraFlex direct-vent pipe: gasket rot at the first horizontal joint. On direct-vent systems we see gasket compression failure at the first joint off the unit, which allows flue gas seepage. That joint gets a new OEM gasket, not a bead of silicone. Silicone is a temporary patch on a vent connection, and we won’t do temporary patches on a gas exhaust.
Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process

- 1
Call and scheduling. A live person answers, 24/7. We book a window and text you when the tech is on the way.
- 2
Camera-scan inspection. NFPA 211 Level 2, camera down the flue on every visit. You see the footage. That’s Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, and it’s been our default since 2009.
- 3
Written scope and price. We put the repair in writing before anything starts: what’s broken, what we’ll do, what it costs, and what the warranty covers. No verbal quotes, ever.
- 4
Parts decision. For DuraFlex work, we use OEM parts when they’re available and within a reasonable lead time. For gaskets and clamps, we stock factory-spec components from the same supply network that serves our HeatShield and Gelco work. When an aftermarket part is genuinely equal, we say so and price it lower.
- 5
The repair. One named tech does the work, boots covered, drop cloths down. Repoint, re-secure, replace, whatever the camera showed.
- 6
Post-repair test and record. We run a draft test where applicable, take final photos, and hand you a documented record of what was done. If it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s stamped on every job.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Repair Costs in New York City
Here’s what we charge for the most common DuraFlex repair scenarios, in writing, before anyone picks up a tool:
| Repair | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Crown repointing and sealing | $450 - $800 |
| Flashing repair at roofline | $500 - $950 |
| Tee snout re-alignment and re-clamp | $350 - $650 |
| Lower liner section replacement (partial reline) | $1,100 - $1,900 |
| Wind-driven rain termination upgrade | $300 - $550 |
What moves the price: roof access difficulty (brownstone parapet vs. a flat suburban-style roof in Staten Island), how much masonry needs repointing, and whether we’re replacing a section or the full liner. We’ll show you the camera footage and hand you the written number. Then you decide. Estimates are free, and the number doesn’t change once we’ve scoped it. Call (980) 580-8641.
Why New York City Homeowners Call Emberly Chimney Cleaners for DuraFlex Work

Most chimney companies in this city know DuraFlex as a brand. We know it as a set of specific failure patterns we’ve been documenting since 2009. Corrine Halstead, our owner, grew up in Inwood and spent years working inspection and cleaning across all five boroughs before founding this company. She’s the one who’ll show you the camera footage herself and tell you exactly what the flue walls look like, before any conversation about price begins.
The camera doesn’t soften what it finds. Neither do we.
If your DuraFlex liner has reached the point where repair doesn’t make sense, we carry HeatShield and Gelco systems as alternatives, and we’ll price all three honestly if that’s the situation. It isn’t about pushing one brand. It’s about showing you what’s actually in your chimney and letting you make the call with real information. Every job gets a written price before work starts, a documented photo record when it’s done, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise behind it. You’ll also get our Free Second Opinion on any written estimate from another contractor. Bring us their number and we’ll tell you if it’s fair.
FAQs
In most cases, a repair performed with OEM or factory-spec components won’t void your DuraFlex warranty, but you should check your original installation paperwork for specific terms. We document every repair with photos and a written scope, so if you need to prove what was done, you have the record. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires that documentation on every job we do, and we’ve kept it since 2009. Call (980) 580-8641 and we’ll walk you through what your warranty covers before we recommend anything.
The camera tells us. Pitting, seam separation, or a broken tee connection in an otherwise sound liner is a repair. Corrosion that wraps more than a third of the liner’s circumference, or gaps that can’t be re-clamped, is a replacement. We’ll show you the footage and explain what we’re seeing in plain terms. If it can safely wait, we’ll say that too, and we’ll write you a price for whenever you’re ready.
Standard DuraFlex components like tees, clamps, and termination caps are typically available within two to five business days through our supply network. Uncommon parts may take longer. We’ll tell you the lead time in writing before any work is scheduled, and we’ll price it into the quote. No surprises after the fact.
If the liner is less than 15 years old and the failure is localized, repair is usually the right call economically. If the liner is older or the corrosion is widespread, we’ll show you the numbers for a full reline with DuraFlex, HeatShield, or Gelco and let you compare. We don’t push one brand. We show you what the camera found and price all your options in writing.
Depends what the camera found. A small crown crack can wait a season. A corroded liner section on a wood-burning fireplace is a fire risk, and a leaking tee on a gas unit can let flue gas into the house. That’s the difference we explain when we show you the footage. We won’t scare you into a repair, but we won’t soften what the camera found either. Call (980) 580-8641 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you straight.
